PEARLY DREW AND THE CASE OF BRATTY LUCILLE AND ERNEST, THE GINGER CAT: Chapter 7 and Introduction to Their Next Mystery

And now for the Conclusion of this mystery and a taste of the next mystery adventure. It will be for Lucy and Ernest. There will be no Lucille—Bratty or not—and good old Ernest, The Ginger Cat!

Chapter 7: Lucy Lets the Light In

The next morning, Lucille opened every window in the house. Sunlight spilled across the floor as Ernest walked in, cautious but curious. Lucille knelt and offered him a ribbon—not for wearing, but for playing.

“Would you stay,” she whispered as she sat in the chair at her desk, “if I became someone better?”

Ernest blinked once, slow and forgiving, before curling up in her lap. She stroked his fur, gentler than ever before.

That afternoon, she dug out an old journal from her desk and scribbled on the first page: “My name is Lucy now.” Outside, the fog lifted completely. And for the first time, the house felt like it was breathing with her and with Ernest.

Feather Note: “Lucy” is more than a shortened name—it’s a softened identity. The house breathing with her symbolizes harmony restored. Light reclaims space that was once governed by fog and fear. Ernest doesn’t “forgive”—he allows. A guide’s work is done when the path becomes clear.

Stay tuned for our next mystery to be titled: “Lucy and Ernest in the Case of the Cracked Teacup.” In it, you will meet an older and more mature Lucy who teams up with Ernest to solve a new mystery that she will write about with Ernest’s “Whiskers Notes”!

You will notice that Lucy still has her wild ringlets of hair, but she has sharpened both ends of her pencil to keep up with the action and Ernest’s feline fundings! Lucy has also turned their favorite corner of the attic into their writing and sleuthing studio!
