Section 3: The Glyph of Protection

One morning, the leafblower came.
A stranger in a neon vest, roaring into the garden, scattering chalk and silence alike. Ernest, caught in his costume, couldn’t flee. The wind pinned him. His paw scraped the stone—a cry, not a drawing.
But the Songbirds remembered.
They rose in a cloud of color and sound. The mockingbird dove. The goldfinch circled. The titmouse shrieked. Together, they drove the stranger back. Pearl emerged, fierce and fluffed, and clucked a sacred warning. The garden was theirs.
That evening, Ernest and the Songbirds drew a new glyph beside the rosemary bush—a spiral nested in wings. A mark of protection. A promise.
And when the wind came again, they began anew.
