From “The Parabolic Chickens”
Pearl and I are sorry for the delay our weather has been shifting from one extreme to the other. Our high temperature for today is supposed to be 65° after recent freezing temperatures. And we aren’t going to say a word about “The Great Opossum Incident”!

This parable told by Jesus, The Great Gardener’s Son, can be found in Matthew 5:14-16, Mark 4:21-22, and Luke 8:16-17; 11:33-36. You may want to read there also to get a more complete perspective, though Pearl gives a great perspective as you will see.
“Bok bok! Well now, if I may cluck a little wisdom from the coop…” began Pearl, “The Great Gardener’s Son said, ‘You are the light of the world,’ and I, Pearl the hen, know exactly what that means.
“When the sun rises and spills golden light across the yard, I hop down from my roost and stretch my wings. I don’t hide in the nesting box all day. No, ma’am. I strut out into the open, scratch the earth, and let my feathers catch the morning light. That’s what light is for—shining, warming, guiding.
“A city on a hill? That’s like the big red barn at the top of the pasture. You can see it from anywhere, even when the fog rolls in. It tells the lost ones where home is.
“And no farmer anywhere lights a lantern and tucks it under the feed sack. That would be silly. A farmer hangs it high on the post so it shines over the whole yard—so even the littlest chick can find her way to the water dish.
“So let your light shine, dear ones, but stay away from matches—not just in the coop, but out where others can see. Let the light of your kindness be like fresh straw, your courage like a crow at dawn, and your love like warm corn on a cold day. That way, when others see you, they’ll give thanks—not to you, but to the One who made the sun, the feathers, and the light in your eyes.
“And I say this, in my little white hen way:
If God has placed a light in you, lift it.
If God has given you goodness, share it.
If God has shown you truth, do not bury it in the straw.
For the One who made the sun and the stars also made the little lamp in your heart.
And He did not make it to be hidden.
“Bok bok. Amen.”
Please stay with us as Pearl explains in her own chicken voice each parable. There are almost 40 in all, so we will send them out as soon as we have them ready to post which is more frequent than we had planned or announced.
Thanks to all of our Friends, Family, and Fans for reading, liking, and sharing! We will keep you in our prayers!
Sincerely,
John and Pearl, (with fond memories of Gracie, Bessie, Blanche, Emily, and Amelia) and our newest Little Buddy, Ernest (who is still patrolling after “The Great Opossum Incident”)
Intriguing.

Thanks, David! Pearl has been encouraging me to write dialogue more like you, but I’m not there yet!
